Blights Blog - part 8

First off for anyone who was disappointed that there wasn’t a blog in last week’s program I apologize. I was a little late getting it in and they didn’t have time to print it.

My program at school has started to pick up and I’ve found myself busier than normal. Normal for me is being at practice for only 2 hours a day for the last 8 years of my life, so one can see how throwing in a full time MBA program would change my lifestyle. Instead of having practice, going to lunch and then having the rest of the day to do whatever I want I now have classes!

Our first assessments are coming up in the next few weeks and you can already feel the tension building up in some of the classes. In fact a bunch of our classmates are planning on coming to the game on Thursday in Dundee to relieve some stress by watching some violence! If they are reading this, thanks for coming! Oh, and sorry I will not be fighting a live bear in between the first and second period like Mac said I would if everyone came. We actually found a bear but the trainer didn’t think the bear had a fair chance on the ice…apparently bears can’t skate… Whatever…

Anyway, back to reality. I’m writing this blog pretty late because….. a) I had a lot of school work to do today, b) I had a lot of school work and I only remembered that it was due after I fell asleep, c)I’m a procrastinator, or d) All of the above…. I’m not going to say what time it is right now but needless to say I will not be spell checking this when I send it in so I apologize for spelling/grammar mistakes. I just won’t have any time to get it in early tomorrow morning with 8am class, followed by practice, followed by group meetings, followed by an awesome go karting event with some local school children!

The games this past weekend were a step in the right direction. If we had a dollar for every game we lost in a shootout, well we’d have 3 dollars, but the point is our record would look so much better if they were wins right now. That is the difference between winning and losing this year in the EIHL. The changes in conferences have made it competitive every night. These games against Sheffield, Nottingham, Coventry and Belfast are wars right now and I think it is better for the league to have these close hard fought games. 6 of our 14 games have gone to overtime or a shootout and we have won 2 of those games. Had we won all of our overtime games we would be in 1st place right now. That is how tight the league is right now. We were able to get 3 out of 4 points this past weekend despite the loss of Milam. I feel we are a team very close to having something special. When we come together and make our push it will be exciting.

This week we have Dundee and then Coventry twice for 2 challenge cup games. This weekend is another big test for our team. Coming off a big 3 point weekend we need to keep the momentum going by following it up with another big weekend. I’m excited to see everyone pumped up in the BBT. Let’s put on a show for the MBA students and create some future hockey fans!
