Blighthers Blog - Part 10

In light of Deeds fines I will try to bite my tongue in this blog. It was really hard for us to lose Max and Deeds to suspension, and Tyson to injury going into the weekend. It required a lot of guys to play more minutes and step up which they did. Rupert had his first taste of EIHL hockey and did quite well. Guys like Piggsy and Harding I thought had really solid weekends and showed they deserve to play a regular shift as well. That is one positive we can take from the weekend.
Friday night’s game was a big win for us shorthanded. We got a huge boost from Biz signing with us. It is funny how things work out. A couple weeks ago Tyson and I were driving home from a game and I thought to myself that Biz would be perfect for our team right now.
We joked about it on the way home and wondered if he would be interested in coming or not and luckily for our team Paul, Franny and G were all on board and made it happen. Biz checks a lot of boxes for us. I told them that he was a really good offensive defenseman when I used to play against him. I’m not sure if they completely believed me or not as he’s most known for being a 4th line forward in the NHL that fights, so they were probably excited about adding his grit.
Well luckily for me Biz didn’t disappoint and looked like Bobby Orr out there rushing from end to end pretty much every shift and even scoring on his first one! He will be great for us while we have him and the thought of having Marsh, Max, and Deeds all back with Biz in the line-up too is very exciting!
I’d like to say I’m surprised that Belfast, Nottingham, and Sheffield don’t have to play this weekend during the national team break but I’m not obviously. We wouldn’t want them to have to play without any of their top British players would we? Unfortunately we do have a game this weekend without one of our top forwards in Phil Hill. This hurts us tremendously, especially when we are already short guys due to the lengthy suspensions and injuries. Luckily we get Deeds back on Sunday or we’d be really short-handed.
I’m finding it hard to see how the regular season championship is the most important trophy. How can you have that when all the teams do not play each other the same amount of times and how can you make some teams play without their Brits during national break while giving other teams a weekend off? If you’re going to have a regular season championship without a proper playoff at the end I think these issues need to be addressed in the future….
